The cost to the Irish government of the bank rescues

The cost to the Irish government of the bank rescues, NAMA and a large public sector borrowing requirement to fund current and capital spending has led by late 2010 to a per capita external debt of over $535,000. This represents some 1,305% of Ireland's annual GDP, making it the most indebted country in the world! The next most indebted country was the United Kingdom which owed 428.8% of its GDP.

A FORMER chief economist at the IMF has warned that Brian Lenihan must immediately ask the IMF for a bailout or risk bankrupting the Irish state!

In a nutshell to get out of debt you need to get into more debt! A paradox INDEED!

Is it not time to look at a more practical and long term sustainable solution rather than myopic decision making?

............ABOUT THE EVENT..........

"...Knowledge is the discerning proof of what is right and what is wrong, and it is the positive force that will help you surmount the trials of comfort, as well as those of hardships. Knowledge is your most powerful sword against your enemy, and finally, it is your most dignifying raiment in the company of your close companions."
Mu'aadh ibn Jabal, radi' Allaahu 'anhu

Imagine entering Jannah without any accounting. Imagine not having your sins displayed in from of Mankind, not having to explain for anything and being able to enter Jannah without any difficult or humiliation! Do you know how? By perfecting your knowledge of tawheed and worship of Allah. Tawheed is the preoccupation of a Muslim in his life, so he begins his life with it and he ends his life with it. His task in life is to establish Allah's oneness and the call to it.

Take a journey into the detailed study of Allah, our Creator Most High! Learn about His worship, the testimony of faith and what it means for us and how to purify and perfect our tawheed. Learn about the many manifestations of Shirk and how people commit the most heinous crime of associating partners with Allah and how they seek to justify it under false pretexts.

So we ask Allaah to make the statement of Tawheed (Laa ilaaha lila Allaah) our last words in this world and we ask Him to gather the Muslims upon the statement of Tawheed. This is the single most important course that any Muslim will ever attend.

The History and Integration of
Muslims in Ireland (1861-2010)
Dr Vivian Ibrahim
University College Cork
This presentation aims to provide an overview of early ‘Muslims’ in Ireland. Examining sail-ors and migrants- including Prof. Mir Aulad Ali (1861-1898) of Trinity College and the first settled community of 1932- this paper will look at how ‘Muslims’ came to Ireland and were perceived in Dublin up to 1945.
Assessing the contemporary, the presentation will then discuss policies that have been imple-mented by the Irish state in attempt to foster an ‘integrated Ireland’. In particular, Garda poli-cies, banking and measure implemented by the Ministry of Integration will be analysed.
This presentation is based on an overview of all the research Dr Vivian Ibrahim conducted over 2009-10 for the IRCHSS-funded project ‘The history of Islam in Ireland’ based at UCC.
Dr Vivian Ibrahim is a post-doctoral researcher in the Study of Religions Department at UCC.

DCU Migration and Interculturalism Research Cluster (MIRC) 2010 lectureseries

You are cordially invited to the third lecture in the DCU Migration and Interculturalism Research Cluster (MIRC) 2010 lectureseries. It will take place in Room HG19, School of Nursing, Dublin City University, on Wednesday 7th April from 6:00 to 7:00 pm - see attachedflyerThis final lecture, entitled "The End of Multiculturalism: How the Dutch Lost their Innocence in the Immigration Debate", will be given byProfessor Han Entzinger, School of Social Science, Erasmus University, Rotterdam and will be followed by a wine and cheese reception.*Brief Summary*'The immigration issue is challenging traditional views of the Netherlands as a country reputed for its openness and its tolerance. Inthe past decade the country has made headlines world wide with several politically inspired murders, a fierce debate on the dangers of Islam, the introduction of one of Europe's strictest immigration and integration policies and, more recently, the rise of the xenophobicFreedom Party, that may end first in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Why this dramatic change? How can it be explained in thelight of major social, cultural and economic transformations in Dutch society and recent and current trends in migration? Could the same thinghappen in other European countries? Han Entzinger, Professor of Migration and Integration Studies at Erasmus University Rotterdam - acity where half the population has a recent immigrant background - will analyse what has been happening in his country and try to findexplanations for it."Please circulate this invitation as widely as possible among your colleagues and students.Looking forward to your joining us for this event,Aoileann Ní MhurchúOn behalf of the MIRC Steering Committee

Invitation to the Irish Launch of Israeli Apartheid: A Beginner's Guide

by Ben White
Thursday 25th March, 6.45pm,Robert Emmet Theatre, Arts Block, Trinity College DublinIsraeli Apartheid: A Beginner's Guide distills the work of academics and experts into a highly readable text. This is the book to read if you want to understand the root of the conflict and how apartheid applies to the situation in Palestine .In an evening chaired by Senator David Norris, author Ben White will discuss his new book that examines the origins of Israeli Apartheid and how it affects the daily lives of Palestinians. The systematic oppression of Palestinians living under Israeli Apartheid applies to both Palestinians living in Israel and those living in the Occupied Palestinian Territories . The 'matrix of control' includes illegal Israeli colonial settlements, settler-only roads, checkpoints and closure, military bases, no-go zones, water theft, the Wall, East Jerusalem, detention and torture. 'The Crime of Apartheid' 'Inhuman acts committed for the purpose of establishing and maintaining domination by one racial group of persons over any other racial group of persons and systematically oppressing them.' - Article II, International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid, UN General Assembly Resolution 3068, 1973Praise for the book:"This book deals rationally and cogently with a topic that almost always generates considerable heat even just with book titles. The reader may not agree with everything that White asserts but it is a highly commendable effort to throw light on a fraught subject." - Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate"This is a very honest, clear and powerful book bringing us face to face with the reality of what Israel has done and is doing to the Palestinians. It would be convenient to ignore it. It would be convenient to assume Ben has got it wrong - that it's not quite that bad. Sadly it is and we ignore it at everyone's peril." - Garth Hewitt, Canon of St. George's Cathedral, JerusalemAbout the authorBen White is a journalist and writer specialising in Palestine/Israel. He also writes on the broader Middle East , Islam and Christianity, and the 'war on terror'. His articles have appeared in a variety of international publications, including the The Guardian, New Statesman, Electronic Intifada and Christian Science Monitor.

WHAT IS JUSTICE FOR AAFIA COALITION (JFAC)
www.justiceforaafia.org
Sunday 28 March 2010 is the 7th anniversary of the kidnapping of Aafia Siddiqui and her children. To commemorate this, the Justice for Aafia Coalition (JFAC) has been formed – an umbrella organisation, currently spanning four continents, which aims to unite and direct all individuals and organisations concerned for our sister and working for her release.
We all should be aware of the plight of our sister Aafia Siddiqui who last month was convicted of the attempted murder of US soldiers in Afghanistan whilst in custody. The hidden side of this story is the fact that Aafia had been missing since 2003 and claims that she was kidnapped with her three children by the Pakistani intelligence services, transferred to US custody and held in a series of secret prisons away from her children for five years during which time she was repeatedly raped, tortured and abused. Two of her children remain missing to this day.
Aafia’s trial was also flawed in that there was no evidence of any gun residue from the rifle she is alleged to have shot, no trace of her fingerprints on the rifle, no bullet shells found in the room or bullet holes in the wall. The testimonies of the soldiers conflicted with each other and with their own earlier statements. Despite the prosecution admitting Aafia was not a member of al-Qaeda or linked to any terrorist group, she was for all intents and purposes, tried as such. Her sentencing is on 6 May – she faces spending the rest of her life in an American maximum security prison. Since her conviction, she has been denied access to phone calls, sending or receiving letters, or any visits, in the interests of ‘national security.’

WHAT IS AAFIA SIDDIQUI DAY?
Sunday 28 March 2010 is the 7th anniversary of the kidnapping of Aafia and her children. To commemorate this and to highlight Aafia’s case as symbolic of the brutality of the ‘war on terror’ with the aim of having her repatriated to Pakistan and launching an investigation into the whereabouts of her missing children, the Justice for Aafia Coalition (JFAC –
www.justiceforaafia.org) has been formed – an umbrella organisation, currently spanning four continents, which aims to unite and direct all individuals and organisations concerned for our sister and working for her release In an international day of protest, we aim to have events, demonstrations, letter-writing campaigns, khutbahs, etc in towns and cities all over the world in solidarity with Aafia on the one day – 28 March.
WHAT CAN YOU DO??????????????
a) Organise an event (or screening) in your locality; rather than asking us to supply speakers, people could spend one hour reading up on her case thoroughly and presenting it to his community. JFAC will aim to provide you with the necessary information pack to deliver a presentation. If people educate themselves on the case and do the talk themselves, it is more empowering than just having an external speaker come. If you are interested in organising an event or hosting a related documentary screening, please email
events@justiceforaafia.org
. All events will be publicised on our website.
b) Attend the Aafia Siddiqui Solidarity March on the 27th March 2010 in front of the USA embassy at 2.30pm.
c) Get 20 people from your community to send a letter to both your local paper and a national paper in the week beginning 22 March. The letters should be short, to the point and mention Aafia Siddiqui Day, the kidnapping and detention, missing children and the event. The individual must collect the letters, buy the postage and envelopes and post the letters. You have 20 days from today to get 19 letters (excluding the one you send yourself).
d) Get 20 people (doesn’t have to be the same 20) to send a letter to Aafia that day, from children in particular. Even though she is currently being denied mail, if the volume is enough, they may just let a few through.
f) An information leaflet, campaign pack and other resources will be shortly available, along with translations of the campaign materials into as many languages as we can. The aim is that anyone in the world can then just print off their particular language and distribute, thereby empowering them and decreasing dependency.
g) Approach your local mosque or Islamic Society to dedicate their khutbah on Friday 26 March to the case of Aafia Siddiqui. A khutbah template is available for download.
Can download from here on this link by click here
There are many other projects in development and events are confirmed for UK, USA, Pakistan, Canada, Ireland, and Australia.
If you would like to assist us in the campaign please email

My love for thee shall aye endure

My love for thee shall aye endure
As now, most perfect and most pure;
It brooks no increase, no decline,
Since it's complete, and wholly thine.
I cannot any cause discover,
Except my will, to be thy lover,
And boldly challenge any man
To name another, if he can.
For sure, when any thing we see
Of its own self sole cause to be,
That being, being of that thing,
Lives ever undiminishing

Disease of the Heart and The Cures

“The heart has been singled out because it is the leader of the body, and through the purification of the leader the subjects become purified, and with his corruption they become corrupted. So if you, Observant of Allaah, wish to cure your heart then it is upon you to be truthful with regards to seeking refuge with Allaah and putting your trust in Him....'' Ibn Hajr Al-Asqalani
The calmness your heart desires has arrived. Cleanse your heart and taste the sweetness of true submission. Are you searching for HAPPINESS, but find yourself looking in the WRONG places?Have you reached the point praying just because you ‘have to’, and not because you absolutely love it? Are you worried that your heart is drifting further and further away from Allah and you feel lost without His Guidance? Do you fear that your actions lack SINCERITY, and are eager to get that sincerity back?Be able to say ‘ALHAMDULILAH’ and truly mean it…Give your heart a much needed ‘health check’. Determine whether or not your heart is ready for the journey to Jannah… The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said;.....Beware, in the body there is a flesh; if it is sound, the whole body is sound, and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt, and behold, it is the heart." [Bukhari & Muslim]COMING TO YOU..."Disease of the Heart and The Cures"WHEN?30TH OF JANUARY 2010SATURDAY10AMWHERE?THEATRE P, ARTS BLOCK, UCD

This seminar will allow you to engage in a dialogue with your heart. It will allow you to uncover the roots of DISOBEDIENCE, and learn about the most important aspect of our religion – the sincerity of our hearts and our connection to Allah.
